At the trendy Vesterbro in Copenhagen, Denmark, a beautiful mashup of vivid colours, sharp patterns and classical structures of a 1900-century building has created an impressive feeling of harmony.
Design Studio: Interior Gruppen
Corridors: 1400 m2 Highline 1400 80/20 AB backing
Suites: 600 m2 Texture 2000 Wt
Carsten Michaelsen, Partner at Interior Gruppen, has lead the transformation and explains: “We wanted to create a colourful and different hotel concept that would really attract attention, be discussed and that would hopefully also tease the guests a little. The concept should be classical and at the same time homely. Therefore, we decided to work with English Designers Guild that besides amazing fabrics and colours also have their own furniture collection that is also represented at the hotel”.
The homely feeling that Carsten Michaelsen refers to is created by combining different textures and colours. Just like in a private home, that often consists of an interesting and personal mixt of things that are bought little by little or inherited.
The curtain as the starting point
Quite early in the process it was decided to use Designers Guild’s curtain collection “Zetani” and the rest of the interior was actually steered by that choice. Therefore, the carpets were aimed to illustrate the same colours and patterns.
Carsten Michaelsen elaborates: “I wanted to create a carpet from which it appears on the main stairs and the space in front of the lift with the colours and designs the guests can expect to see in the rooms. This idea was brought to life by striped carpets that also manage to make the quite narrow corridors look wider”.
A modern production technology and a sharp design approach
Interior Gruppen and ege carpets have cooperated for many years and Carsten Michaelsen explains the reason why: “ege carpets has the modern production technology and the sharp design approach that perfectly matches our challenges involved in linking the Designers Guild design with carpets.
Another advantage of working with ege carpets is the fact that we receive samples during the process, which enable us convincing the customer of the potential in buying a unique carpet design that can only be found at Absalon Hotel.”
